Archived: Syrian Christians for Peace Raises the Syrian Cause and the Case of the Detainees in the European Union
In the light of blockage in the political process in Syria due to the regime’s method, which works towards revoking the political solution and clinging to the military one, and in the light of the escalation of the savage violence, which the Syrian public is exposed to from both the ruling mafiosi and sectarian regime and other terrorist forces alike, and as a response to the campaign of lies, which the regime propagates when it presents itself as a potential partner in fighting terrorism and radicalism in Syria, in the light of all this, the Syrian Christians for Peace Organization intensified its activities and presence on the diplomatic and international arenas. In relation to this, the Organization held a series of high-level meetings for two days (26-27, April. 2016) in the European Union and the European Council in Brussel.
The Organization was represented in this initiative by the members of the executive committee, Dr. Wael aleji and Mr. Jamey Shahaniyan. These meetings were also attended by representatives from most important Christian Organizations that operate in the public sector. This initiative included meetings with the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Human Rights Committee in the European Parliament, in addition to meetings with the permanent delegates of Holland, Spain, Slovakia, Estonia and Hungary. The delegates of the Organization talked also to a large number of the European Parliament members to explain the Syrian people’s cause, strife and suffering.
The delegates of the Organization emphasized in all their meetings that the political solution in Syria will never be achieved without a clear-cut and well-defined political process that guarantees a transformation from a sectarian, tyrannical regime into a civil and democratic one that is based on the principles of ‘full citizenship’ and ‘equality before the Law’, in addition to securing the victims’ and missing’s rights by means of activating a process of transitional justice and national reconciliation, so that all those who were involved in the crimes against the Syrian people must be held accountable and judged. The delegates of the Organization raised also the case of the over-tenth of thousands of detainees and missing citizens, and they called for spending all the efforts and exerting the pressure possible to release them and grant them back their rights.
The delegates of the Organization stressed that the entire Syrian public needs an urgent protection, arguing that it is meaningless to speak about merely soothing this side or that as long the Assadi killing-machine – which magnetized all the terrorism and evil forces into Syria because of its crimes and sectarian behavior – refuses to stop its criminal actions. The delegates also stressfully expressed the refusal of all the Christian patriotic individuals and bodies of any political solutions that are shaped after confessionalist divisions and power-sharing, or after an attempt at granting special constitutional prerogatives to soothe one side or another.
The Syrian Christians for Peace Organization confirms its permanent commitment to the Syrian people’s cause and just revolution. It also affirms that it will continue its implementation, locally and internationally, of its network of relationships and presence in the service of defending Syria and its national and geographical unity, as well as in the service of defending the Syrian people’s right of free life in the shadow of a democratic system that evenly venerates the Syrian citizen’s rights without any ethnic or confessional discrimination.
